SJC to Hold Community Veterans Event

April 22, 2014

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. APRIL 23, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will hold the community event "Stories We Carry: Conversations that Create Community on Tuesday, May 6 from 5:30 7:30 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center located on its Long Island Campus in Patchogue, N.Y.

Stories We Carry, a Mental Health Association of New York City project, is a national community building initiative that connects veterans with civilians through storytelling. Told from different perspectives, these stories create a dialogue on war and its effect on the community, as well as military service and reintegration to create a greater sense of shared responsibility, service and support.

"We are very excited for the opportunity to pair up with the Mental Health Association of NYC, as well as the Veterans Health Alliance for this event, said Shannon ONeill, assistant dean and military adviser on SJCs Long Island Campus. "It's a great opportunity for veterans and civilians to talk and break down barriers and misconceptions.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information or to RSVP, email [email protected] or call Shannon ONeill at 631.687.2678.

SJC is an active participant in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, offering veteran students financial support, a monthly housing allowance and an annual stipend for books and school supplies. For more information about military offerings at SJC, visit www.sjny.edu/military.
