SJC to Host 2nd Annual Expert Lecture on Health Care

PATCHOGUE, NY OCTOBER 27, 2009 St. Josephs College will host its 2nd annual expert lecture on health care, "How Health Care Reform Could Affect Your Insurance Premiums at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009. Geoffrey C. Sandler, F.S.A., M.A.A.A., staff vice president and actuary at WellPoint, Inc., will be the featured guest speaker.

Responsible for pricing Medicaid and state childrens health insurance programs for WellPoints Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Unicare subsidiaries, Geoffrey Sandler is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Prior to working at Empire, he held numerous insurance and actuarial positions at MetLife, Mercer and Cigna.

"While Americans follow the health care debate that talks about trillions and billions, the average person cares mostly about the dollars and cents issue of how it will affect their health care premiums, said John Sardelis, Dr.P.H., associate chairperson of  health administration and founder of the St. Josephs College Healthcare Center for Outreach, Research and Education (C.O.R.E.).

This event, which is being sponsored by the School of Professional and Graduate Studies and Health C.O.R.E. at St. Josephs College, is free and open to the public and will be held in the McGann Conference Center at the Colleges Long Island Campus.
