Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone to Visit SJC Long Island

September 18, 2015

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – SEPTEMBER 18, 2015 – SJC Long Island is pleased to welcome Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone on Monday, September 28 at 1 p.m. to give a presentation on the Innovation Zone (I-Zone) plan.

In June 2015, County Executive Bellone introduced his four-part, $350 million I-Zone plan to efficiently upgrade the infrastructure connecting the north shore of Long Island to the south shore, with prominent institutions along the way. The aim of the I-Zone project is to foster economic growth and to keep young people on Long Island. The I-Zone will include increased and augmented Long Island Railroad service; affordable housing in downtowns; a “bus-only” lane from Stony Brook to Patchogue; a bike and hike trail; a public transportation terminal at MacArthur Airport and the expansion of the Ronkonkoma hub.

“We are honored that the County Executive has chosen to give his informative presentation on the economic and social implications of the I-Zone plan here at SJC Long Island,” said Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., president of SJC. “St. Joseph's College prides itself on the relationships it has with Suffolk County officials and its involvement in community improvement projects.”

The presentation is free and open to the public. An RSVP is required by emailing [email protected].

SJC Long Island is located at 155 W. Roe Blvd. in Patchogue, and is accessible via the South Service Road of Sunrise Highway, just east of Exit 52 (Waverly Ave.).
