Admitted Student FAQs

When is the first day of classes?
Spring 2019 classes begin on January 23 and the Fall 2019 classes will begin on September 4, 2019.

How do I go about getting credit for college courses I have taken in high school or at any other college?
Freshmen and transfer students should have transcripts with grades for all college-level credits earned sent to the Office of Admissions at St. Joseph's College. AP and CLEP scores should be sent to the Registrar's Office. Information about college courses already taken, as well as AP and CLEP exams, should be discussed with your adviser during registration.

How will I know what classes to take?
When you attend registration, you will meet one-on-one with an adviser who will assist you with course selection. You will go home with your class schedule at the end of the program.

When is orientation and what takes place during this program?
Orientation is held just before classes begin. Students will receive an invitation in the mail. Helpful sessions are conducted to introduce you to St. Joseph’s academics, campus services and student life opportunities. Orientation also provides an opportunity to get to know other members of your entering class. Our student orientation leaders have designed a program to make your transition to St. Joseph’s as seamless as possible. The goal is to promote positive academic, personal and social experiences. We will provide you with information about student services and support systems. You also will learn about our vibrant student life and how to get involved.

Is orientation mandatory?
Yes. As a new student, it is important that you are introduced to the wealth of opportunities and services at SJC so you can avail yourself of a full collegiate experience. A nominal orientation fee covers the cost of your meals for the day, materials distributed at the program and your cap and gown for Investiture, a ceremony that takes place at the beginning of the fall semester.

Does SJC provide services for students with disabilities?
Yes. For information about receiving classroom accommodations, contact the Office of Student Accessibility Services, which coordinates services for students with disabilities, in O’Connor Hall, Room N215.

Do I have access to all of the facilities in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center?
Yes, as an SJC student you may take advantage of all of the facilities in our athletic center, including a competition-size heated swimming pool; strength training room; elevated track; aerobics studio; and a state-of-the-art fitness room with 18 selectorized Cybex machines and a variety of cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals and rowers. Students also have access to our new outdoor sports complex for softball, baseball, lacrosse, track and tennis.

Should I become involved in student clubs and activities?
Absolutely! SJC offers a wide array of student clubs, organizations, events and activities. Getting involved is a great way to meet new people, have fun, enhance your college experience and gain invaluable leadership, organizational and communication skills. To introduce new students to our clubs and organizations, a Club and Activities Fair is scheduled at the start of each semester.

How do I get involved in student clubs and activities?
At orientation, new students are introduced to our variety of student clubs and organizations. At that time, you may indicate your interest in different clubs and will be invited to attend club meetings. In addition, a Club and Activities Fair is held early in the fall semester to introduce new students to all of our clubs. You may also learn about club meetings and activities as they are posted on flat screen monitors located throughout our campus. The professional staff in our Office of Student Life stand ready to answer any questions you may have about student activities, how to get involved and how to start a new club.

When must I declare a major?
Students must declare a major at the end of their sophomore year. However, if you are ready to select a major earlier, we encourage you to do so.

How do I get verification of my full-time enrollment at SJC for my medical insurance?
The Office of the Registrar will prepare a letter verifying your enrollment as a full-time matriculated student for the semester (including the dates of the semester). You may obtain a letter request form from the registrar’s office, in O’Connor Hall, Room N211. The registrar will give the letter to you or send it directly to your insurance company. You will likely need a letter each semester if you are 18 or older.

When will I receive my SJC email account?
As soon as you register for classes, you will have access to your college email account through the MySJC portal. Instructions will be provided to incoming students on registration day, but can also be found on our website by clicking MySJC under Log In which is in the top right corner of each page of our website.

Can I access my student information online?
Yes. Once you have registered for classes, you may log onto the SJC website to access your student information. You will learn how to do this at registration and orientation. After registration, you should check your SJC email regularly.
